Acne & Depression - March 22nd, 2011
It’s been known for years, acne can contribute to depression and emotional issues in teens. Teens and adults alike who suffer from acne are more likely to experience dips in self-esteem, and the effects can outlast the acne itself. But now, they have actually done a study that confirms this well-known fact.
Pimples, low self-esteem, and depression go hand in hand. By actually analyzing 16 different studies, researchers have found that “Acne has a huge impact on people’s lives. It’s something worth treating” according to Dr. Steven R Feldman.
Personally, I think about this, and I think what a waste of time and money. How much could have been accomplished if scientists used that money to research treatments for acne or for that matter treatments for cancer rather than analyzing 16 other studies (which also costs too much for the purpose) to tell us that acne can damage self-esteem.
In one study, it showed that 9% of teens who happen to suffer from acne showed sign of depression and even suicidal tendencies. I have to wonder if a study on teens in general, (regardless of acne) would show the same thing. But who really knows. This study is meant to underline the idea that we need to focus on better acne treatments are more accessible acne treatments. But again, is there a particular reason why the money wasn’t spent researching treatments for acne that have not been over-studied (like benzoyl peroxide).

Light Therapy for Clearer Skin - March 22nd, 2011
The right treatment can help just about anybody to maintain clearer skin. It’s just a matter of determining which treatment is right for you. There are many options available ranging from creams to washes to more expensive procedures. But recently, laser light therapy has jumped to the forefront, acting as a treatment for those who don’t respond to more conventional treatments. These are also known for being a little more expensive, and there are several different types:
Blue Light Therapy
Blue light therapy is commonly believed to destroy certain bacteria, therefore destroying acne and reducing inflammation at the same time. Ongoing treatment is best if you want the best results. But this can be performed in a clinical setting, or you can buy machines that help you to achieve the same effect that can be used in the comfort of your own home.
Pulsed Light & Heat Energy Therapy
Pulsed light and heat energy therapy is often combined, and it is thought to destroy the same bacteria, therefore reducing acne and decreasing excessive oil production. It can cause temporary redness in the treated area. But it is believed to work within a short period of time.
Diode Laser Therapy
Used to destroy sebaceous glands in the dermis without harming the out layer of the skin, laser treatment can be painful. But the pain is generally controlled with analgesics applied before treatment. However, it can still cause temporary redness and swelling in the treated areas.
Photodynamic Therapy
This combines topical creams and medications with laser based therapy. A medication called a photosensitizing agent is applied to enhance the effects of light therapy, and then light therapy is used once it has had time to soak in. It can cause redness, swelling, crusting, and acne flare-ups in some. But side effects are not always likely.

Golf Fitness Tips - March 4th, 2011
Golf and fitness haven’t always been closely related. But thanks to players like Tiger Woods, the two words are starting to become more associated. More and more athletes have started to play the game. The competition is more fierce than ever before. If you want to stay ahead of the curb out there, you’re going to need to establish a workout routine to keep you in optimal golfing shape. In this article I want to give you a few golf training aids and fitness tips you can use to get your body into prime club swinging shape.
Always start your exercises and games with a few warm ups. Make sure to work your legs, arms, shoulders, and core muscles. Try a quick jog. Stretch your arms and rotate your shoulders. Practice some twists to get your trunk ready to swing. At the end of your warm up, grab a club and make some practice swings. Start slow at first and then work your way up to full speed over 30 seconds or so. To really get your muscles going, try practice swinging with two clubs.
The first exercise I would suggest doing is a simple squat. So much of the power you need for your swing comes up the leg first before it reaches your hips. You’ll need to strengthen your thighs to get the most power to your waist. To perform a body squat, you don’t need anyway weights. Just grab a club and you’re good to go. Set the club in front of you for balance, then bend your knees as if you were sitting back on a chair or park bench. Make sure your knees aren’t pushing out toward your club. That could lead to some injuries. Instead, try to transfer your weight back into your thighs and down into your heels.
Golf fitness also requires keeping your core strong. Core muscles like the hips, abdominals, and obliques should be responsible for how hard you can swing, not your arms. A great way to strengthen these muscles is to buy and exercise band. While tying one end of the band to something that will hold, take the other end and mimic the movement of your golf swing. Rotate through, with your legs pivoting, slow at first, but then increase your speed until you are swinging as fast as you would a real club.
With these little golf fitness tips, you can really start building the body you need to really hold your own out there on the green. Staying in shape for golf will not only help you be better at the game, it will help you enjoy the game better as you incur less injuries and feel less wiped out by the end of the 18th hole.

Safe Herbal Diet Pills - August 11th, 2010
Herbal alternatives have often been introduced and predicated on the idea that they are much safer than their prescription alternatives. With herbal diet pills, they say that you will finally be able to find safe alternatives that can at least work, if not functioning as effectively as many prescription competitors. With herbal diet pills, you are not always guaranteed to get safe diet pills. Unfortunately, there are some herbal ingredients that have both minor side effects and side effects that could easily rival those of prescriptions. So how do you avoid these and get exactly what you are looking for?
There are herbal diet pills out there that can work without the side effects. First of all, when you are looking for safe diet pills, you need to watch out for stimulant based options. They can work for some people, and they could even be considered completely safe for some people. But if you have certain medical conditions or you are just sensitive to caffeine, you are likely to suffer through a number of problems. Unfortunately, most energy drinks like Red Bull do not actually have as much caffeine as you may think, and so they do not create the resistance most would think of as compared to the average diet pills.
But outside of that, there are other ingredients to avoid. They may not have stimulants. But some herbal ingredients have been known to cause side effects as severe as heart attacks, strokes, and renal failure! Some of these options have obviously been banned. But there are others that are still surviving in a constantly growing market. For safe herbal diet pills, there are safe diet pills ingredients. You just have to be a bit pickier than normal to find them.

Acne Prevention - August 31st, 2009
One of the best ways to avoid having acne is to use a really good acne mask. It can be made of various ingredients, and really you can get various different benefits depending on the mask. For example, honey is an extremely popular one meant to kill off bacteria while also moisturizing the skin and nourishing it in various ways. But one of the best ones to keep acne from coming back is a simple one. All you do is mix 1 ½ cups water, 1 ½ teaspoons powdered goldenseal root, and 1 ½ teaspoons ground basil leaf. You can find water from your tap obviously and all the other ingredients can easily be found in your grocery store.
But it works best after a hot wash or steamy shower when your pores are more open for these ingredients to penetrate in general. But it will really take care of your skin, and it’s easy to use. It will kill off bacteria, kill off free radicals, and even give your skin a certain glow. But if you already have existing zits, you can still use this mask. Just make sure that you are also using a product using magnesium hydroxide to actually spot treat those particular zits to get what you really need.
