The right treatment can help just about anybody to maintain clearer skin. It’s just a matter of determining which treatment is right for you. There are many options available ranging from creams to washes to more expensive procedures. But recently, laser light therapy has jumped to the forefront, acting as a treatment for those who don’t respond to more conventional treatments. These are also known for being a little more expensive, and there are several different types:
Blue Light Therapy
Blue light therapy is commonly believed to destroy certain bacteria, therefore destroying acne and reducing inflammation at the same time. Ongoing treatment is best if you want the best results. But this can be performed in a clinical setting, or you can buy machines that help you to achieve the same effect that can be used in the comfort of your own home.
Pulsed Light & Heat Energy Therapy
Pulsed light and heat energy therapy is often combined, and it is thought to destroy the same bacteria, therefore reducing acne and decreasing excessive oil production. It can cause temporary redness in the treated area. But it is believed to work within a short period of time.
Diode Laser Therapy
Used to destroy sebaceous glands in the dermis without harming the out layer of the skin, laser treatment can be painful. But the pain is generally controlled with analgesics applied before treatment. However, it can still cause temporary redness and swelling in the treated areas.
Photodynamic Therapy
This combines topical creams and medications with laser based therapy. A medication called a photosensitizing agent is applied to enhance the effects of light therapy, and then light therapy is used once it has had time to soak in. It can cause redness, swelling, crusting, and acne flare-ups in some. But side effects are not always likely.
